Sagging Eyelids Make a Person Look Tired – An Eye Lift Restores a More Awake Appearance

Due to aging, stress, and the elements, the eyelids tend to droop over the eyes. This can ruin your appearance and cause you to look constantly exhausted. It can even impair your vision.
If you’re ready to look alert and awake again, you may be in need of an eye lift. Also called a blepharoplasty, an eye lift can correct sagging eyelids by repairing and rejuvenating them.
What Is an Eye Lift?
An eye lift can remove excess skin from the eyelids, tighten drooping muscle tissue, and reposition eyelid fat to do away with bulging and puffiness. An eye lift can be done in conjunction with other surgeries and procedures for facial rejuvenation.
The eyelids gradually lose their elasticity with time and as a result of gravity. This causes the eyelid skin to become loose and saggy. The excess skin on the eyelids can cause wrinkles. On the upper eyelids, the extra folds of skin can hang over the person’s eyelashes, obstructing vision.
You can correct these issues with an eye lift. It is important to note that an eye lift will rejuvenate the eyelids but will not eliminate dark circles underneath the eyes or crow’s feet.
Are You a Good Candidate?
You are an ideal candidate for eyelid surgery if you are in overall good health and want to correct drooping eyelids and look younger.
Ideally, you should be 30 years or older for this surgery. You will first need to meet with Dr. Hlavacek for a consultation. He will assess your eyelids and determine how much excess tissue needs to be removed from your eyelids. He will then plan out your eyelid surgery and schedule a date for the procedure.
Procedure Steps for an Eye Lift
You will first be administered with anesthesia at the discretion of Dr. Hlavacek – either local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia. He will then make a very small incision in each eyelid (at the natural crease for the upper eyelid and at the lash line or inside the lid for the lower eyelid).
The underlying excess fat will be removed or repositioned as needed, and the underlying muscles will be tightened. The excess skin will be removed, and the incisions will be closed with dissolvable sutures.
Recovery and Healing
Dr. Hlavacek will give you post-surgical care directions during your consultation. These will include taking some time off from work and avoiding physically strenuous activities like sports and exercise for at least two to three weeks after your eyelid surgery. Make sure to avoid putting too much strain on your eyes after having the surgery.
The tissues of the eyelids will be weakened and very prone to damage for a time. Because of this, part of recovery will be protecting your eyelids from environmental factors like harsh sun and wind. Wear sunglasses during your healing and make sure to apply the proper sunscreen.
